Deacons

Deacons undertake ministries of care and compassion within and beyond the congregation. Deacons should demonstrate spiritual character, honest reputation, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies and sound judgment.

It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith. They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them by the session.

Board of Deacons

The following is a list of the current Board of Deacons.

  • Gary Cynowa (Class of 2008) - Moderator
  • Maxine Stephenson (Class of 2008)
  • Margaret Neebes (Class of 2009) - Vice Moderator
  • Annetta Pokrzywinski (Class of 2010)

Goals

Ministries of care and compassion include:

  • Continuing to help the Session monitor the spiritual, physical and emotional well-being of our congregation both as a whole and as individual members.
  • Drawing more attention to the wider concerns of our community as we seek to answer Christ's call to serve and minister to others.
  • Helping organize and encourage financial and human resource support both for individuals and their families and for various projects within and outside of our congregation in response to the Lord's call to "Love your neighbor as yourself."
  • Help provide supplies, assistance and supervision to the church kitchen area, especially for the Sunday after-service coffee hour.
  • Provide on a reliable basis the set-up and clean-up of all church communion services.
  • Help provide opportunities for fellowship and fun.

One of the most important activities of the Board of Deacons is to attend to the good and welfare of the congregation.  Each member of the congregation has a Deacon assigned to him/her. Please let us know if you have a special need or if you do not your Deacon.

Here is a list of what we do:

  • When given approval by those in need, we visit with our members in their homes, in hospitals, or on the phone
  • We recognize our members' birthdays, anniversaries and special celebrations with cards
  • We occasionally prepare a meal or special treat for those recovering from and illness, or who have recently had a newborn child
  • We mourn with you at funeral homes, at the bereavement service and at graveyard sites when you have suffered the loss of a loved one
  • We host the annual church picnic where fun, food and fellowship are enjoyed by everyone.

We encourage you to assist the Deacons by volunteering to participate in this direct kind of needed member support in our congregation.

In addition, your continued financial support to the Deacon's Fund, collected on the first Sunday of each month, is greatly appreciated.  Your contributions are the financial lifeline to those members and others in need.

FOOD PANTRY

The Deacons are collecting food for our Food Pantry.  Any additions you can contribute are greatly appreciated.  Please print this list and take it with you while you grocery shop.
